History of the Southside Shopper

A Few Words from Henry Mundy....

The first edition of the Southside Shopper hit the streets nearly 30 years ago -- on February 10, 1977. My staff of one and I held our breath and waited -- how would it be received? The answer is, Very Well! It turned out that we filled a real need in our community. And we've continued to improve on filling that need ever since.

The first edition was about 4 pages long, and we circulated 10,000 copies. We've certainly come a long way! Currently, we print nearly 40,000 copies of our 52+-page paper every week -- and, thanks to you, we're still growing.

We're very proud of our paper and really enjoy publishing it for you! With 50 years of experience in the newspaper business, I guess I can take some of the credit for the Southside Shopper's success. But to tell you the truth, the lion's share of credit goes to my immediate family (wife, son, 3 daughters, and 1 son-in-law) and to our other dedicated employees.
